Late August to Early October is the best time of year to reseed or overseed your fescue lawn.
Why not seed in Spring instead?
• The most stressful time of year for fescue is the heat of summer. By planting in Fall this maximizes its time to grow deep roots to resist heat and drought.
• Spring is when most weeds germinate which is why pre-emergent herbicide is used at that time of year to keep seeds from germinating. If you seed in Spring then if you use pre-emergent it will keep the grass seed from germinating, if you don't use pre-emergent then the grass will be competing with the weeds for water, nutrients and sunlight. The weeds will grow faster and win, choking out the grass. Even if you don't use pre-emergent, by planting in Fall, the grass gets a head start to help crowd out and shade out the weeds.
Premium Tall Fescue $84.99 per 50 lb bag
• Don't fall for coated seed that claim better germination but only give you half as many seeds per pound. Our seed is all seed, no fillers, and tested at a 90% germination rate.
• Don't plant weeds by buying inferior impure seed. Our seed is tested to be 0.00% weed seed and has delivered outstanding results for our customers year after year, making yards beautiful.
• Don't buy Kentucky 31 Fescue unless you want a pale green lawn. Kentucky 31 was the best seed you could get in the 1940's and for a few decades after. Since then darker, thicker, more drought tolerant varieties have been cultivated.
• Overseding: 4-6 Lbs per 1000 sqft (4 bags per acre)
• New Ground Seeding: 8-10 Lbs per 1000 sqft (8 bags per acre)
Seed is a seasonal item. We will sell out around the end of September and bring it in again next August.
