Persian shield is a root-hardy evergreen perennial in USDA plant hardiness zones 8-11 known for its bold green and vibrant iridescent purple leaves that shine with a hint of chrome-silver. In colder climates, it can be grown as a summer annual or low maintenance perennial houseplant. Leaves can reach 4 to 7 inches long and 3 inches wide. Persian Shield loves heat and humidity and does great in the southeast. They can be pruned to a size and shape that can fit about any space or let to grow large and wild.
