Excellent receiver from Pioneer's 70's SX-x50 series lineup ! All functions, meters and lamps work as they should. I've recently done some maintenance on this unit so it's ready to enjoy. Cleaned all controls and switches with DeOxit5 electronics cleaner so they are smooth and free of static. I also performed the tedious job of repairing a very common issue with this model's On/Off switch. Over its 50 years, the switch's internal contacts develop built-up carbon... which prevents a good, full contact when 1st turned ON. It makes the lights flicker for a few seconds, before eventually settling down and becoming stable. It's no easy task to open up the switch, and file off the carbon, but I've done it before. Now unit comes ON immediately with no flickering/static.

This model's case, like the SX-650, was veneered with a super thin, 2-ply vinyl that eventually starts to peel, and lift off around edges, esp on the side plates. I replaced the veneer with new walnut-grain vinyl veneer which looks much better ! The shade of the new veneer is a tad lighter than the original, but hardly noticeable unless closely inspecting. Silver faceplate and lettering looks great. Entire unit is in super clean physical / cosmetic shape !

This was Pioneer's entry-level receiver of the series, power rated at 15 watts/ch RMS into 8 ohms... but that rating was by 1970's calculations/standards. The unit will absolutely fill out a pair of large bookshelf speakers and plenty loud. For buyer's wanting to directly connect a turntable and play their records, the receiver has a PHONO input ! Includes a nice T-wire/dipole FM antenna. Integrated rod AM antenna swings out and swivels up/down from rear panel (see pic). Best way to understand all operations, features and specs is to download and read thru the Owners Manual from the following link:

Can also download pdf copies of a Brochure, Spec Sheet & Service Manual from following link: (The website had stopped letting new members create accounts last summer... if buyer cannot signup and download docs, message me and I'll email you what you need.)

If buyer plans on using this 50-year old receiver on a daily basis for many more years, it would be a good idea to have an audio tech give it a full servicing... checking all resistors, caps, etc and making needed replacements and adjustments to bring unit back to spec.

An SX-450 in this condition has been SELLING on eBay for around $300-350. I'm offering this locally, at a much lower price to avoid the serious 4-hour packing job. $200 FIRM (cash only) is a steal for a "plug & play" SX-450 !!! SERIOUS BUYERS send a message with a NAME, CELL # and a preferred DAY & TIME to verify condition and buy/pickup. I will have the receiver connected to some speakers and demo that all functions work as they should, and sound performance is excellent.
