The NC Zoo is seeking a Horticulture/Grounds Technician to oversee the kidZone area in the North American continent of the Zoo. This position will be responsible for all aspects of plant maintenance of an assigned landscape, including planting, watering, mulching and fertilization. This position is also responsible for planning, developing and presenting formal conservation and educational programs in the park. The ideal applicant should be very creative in designing programs, as well as an excellent speaker. This position also coordinates zoo volunteers to help with the grounds maintenance and program presentations in their assigned area.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Must have a thorough working knowledge of landscape design and construction. Technical knowledge of and physical ability to perform landscape maintenance and horticultural practices. Ability to safely operate landscaping equipment, which may include tractors, bobcats, chainsaws, weed eaters and loaders, etc. Ability to use a computer for research and record keeping. Ability to make minor repairs to horticultural equipment, work areas and tools. Ability to follow oral and written instructions. Pesticide Applicators license within twelve months of employment.
Training and Experience Requirements:
